Aramid breakload test of 710mT

Posted on 2014-03-13

Mennens Dongen has successfully performed another break load test on an
aramid cable as part of a Lloyds certification project for one of its customers.

The test was performed at on our 14.00kN test bench and was witnessed by
the customer and a surveyor of Lloyds Register. The required break strength of
the cable was 6560kN. After pre-loading of the cable in a controlled sequence
the cable was pulled to break at 6972kN (701mT), so well over the required
breaking strength.

All cables have to meet the requirements as prescribed by Lloyds in the Code
for Lifting Appliances in a Marine Environment (CLAME) 2013.
The cables will be used  as suspension stays for a fly-jib on the cranes on an
offshore heavy-lift vessel
